This specimen is a member of the Nimphalinae family, whose main trait is the peculiar forelegs; so much reduced that they appear to have only four legs. They are worldwide in distribution and the group includes some of the most familiar and evocatively-named species such as Painted Ladies, Peacocks and Admirals. Most Nymphalinae butterflies perch with wings open.
Este espécimen es un miembro de la familia Nimphalidae cuyo razgo principal es el de contar con sus peculiares patas delanteras, tan reducidas que parecen tener solamente cuatro. Se distribuyen por todas partes del mundo y el grupo incluye alguna de los nombres más conocidos, tales como las Damas pintadas, Pavos reales y los Admirantes. La mayoría de las mariposas ninfálidas se posan con las alas abiertas.
